Thanks for drawing attention to this, Alan.

I have tried to update it in Ubuntu 16.04.3 using the PPA.

The Ubuntu PPA page
https://launchpad.net/~jon-hedgerows/+archive/ubuntu/get-iplayer
includes
get-iplayer 3.10-ppa31b~xenial
but when I run

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:jon-hedgerows/get-iplayer
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install get-iplayer

it tells me it is unpacking 3.09 over 3.07. When I run get_iplayer it says
it is 3.09-ppa31b.
If I update it again it says 3.09 is the latest version. Have I done
something wrong?

Best wishes
Richard

If you go to the ppa page
https://launchpad.net/~jon-hedgerows/+archive/ubuntu/get-iplayer
and click up in the top right hand corner where it says 5 packages
waiting to build you will see that they have not actually been built
yet, I imagine if you wait a bit
till that message disappears then update again all will be well.

Thanks for explaining that. I was going by the extremely rapid
implementation of previous updates. When you start thinking about all the
variants you appreciate the effort that Dinky and everyone else are putting
in to maintaining this software.

I believe (but not certain) that the build is an automated process, it
is a matter of waiting for launchpad to get round to building it.

There's only a single non-vital change between 3.09 and 3.10 as
mentioned in the release note so it's not really worth updating at the
moment.

I understand that. In Windows I don't run the installer for every update.
I just rename the old get_iplayer.pl script and copy the new one unless
there have been changes to other components. I dare say I can do the same
in Linux if there is any urgency. I was just puzzled that previous updates
to the PPA had been available within hours while this one was taking longer.

An advantage of updating manually is that I can keep old versions of the
script, if I want a feature that is no longer in the current version. For
example with v2.99 and rtmpdump I was able to download Alastair's p0081fsp
Flash clip (although that doesn't help Alastair if he hasn't kept the v2.99
script and rtmpdump).

I fully accept there is no urgency. I am just asking out of curiosity as
Linux is new to me.

According to a comment on this page
https://askubuntu.com/questions/26129/upload-to-ppa-succeeded-but-packages-doesnt-appear
it should take 2 hours max for a Launchpad build.

Has something gone wrong?

Best wishes

The 5 builds of the ubuntu PPA for v3.10 are now shown as Successfully
built. There is no indication why it took longer than usual.
