Hi,
Has anyone any idea why Episode 8 of the latest series of The Coroner is
not available? it isn't available on bbc iplayer either?

If you check the showing dates, which were on a daily basis, the showings
went straight from Ep7 to Ep9 with no missing day in between.
The episode is available on Youtube.

It's probably the music used in the episode.
In the credits it states Blur's "Girls and Boys" is featured in the episode
yet no other episode in Season 2 features any similar music.
I imagine the BBC only had broadcast rights for the music at the time of the
original airing in 2016.

broadcast, but then all of the rest of s1 didn't. Not good if you only
invested time watching it on the basis of watching the series that was

It's perhaps worth noting that repeats of daytime TV quite commonly seem to
miss out episodes at random. I guess they show however many episodes they
need to fill a gap until the next new series starts. Looking back, I see
that I recorded S2E8 of "The Coroner" (which was called "The Foxby Affair")
on 2nd December 2016.

don't worry about missing the odd programme. Generally, the only time
they take steps to broadcast a missed show is if it is the original

that it had not been broadcast at all (this time around) and wondered
why it wasn't available on iplayer, but even if they hadn’t broadcast it
live you would think that it could still be available on iplayer.

but even if they hadn’t broadcast it live you would think that it could still be available on iplayer.

The BBC would probably say that rights restrictions stop them doing that if they haven't broadcast it. Having said that, they already do this with a lot of programmes.

Having said that I wonder why they picked episode 8? maybe it was the
one episode that didn't effect the ongoing background story too much.
(or maybe that it giving the BBC too much credit).

Nice idea but I'm not sure they would have thought too much about it. The strange thing here is they obviously had space to broadcast it because they had to fill the final slot on the friday with an episode from series 1 because they had 10 slots and after they scrapped episode 8 they had 9 episodes to fill them.

Didn't they broadcast S1 Ep 1 instead of S2 Ep1, then followed by S2 Ep 2-7/9-10, so there were 10 programmes for 10 slots?

The BBC would probably say that rights restrictions stop them doing that if they haven't broadcast it. Having said that, they already do this with a lot of programmes.

Having said that I wonder why they picked episode 8? maybe it was the
one episode that didn't effect the ongoing background story too much.
(or maybe that it giving the BBC too much credit).

They published the schedule for S1 E1-10 up to a week in advance, then
*after* E1 had broadcast they scheduled S2 E1-7,9-10 for the same
remaining time slots as S1 E2-E10.

Perhaps the BBC either consider it junk that needs no continuity, or the
afternoon audience incapable of noticing.
