Since the first of the main BBC1/2 coverage programmes finished at
18:00, I've been watching the BBC site to start a download of it, but
nothing doing  -  neither of today's programmes has become available.
Does anybody here happen to know why?

Patience! ;-) My system started to download them overnight. But I now
have a helluva dilemma - the BBC2 file is 23 GB. This 2 GB per hour mode
is a PITA! :-(

What mode are you downloading? The BBC2 is 2GB here. ***@50fps
20GB does seem excessive.

I was looking at the wrong file.
Wimbledon 2018 are nearly 10GB.
***@50fps
thankfully I am not into sports.

My version of GiP is v3.14 and has been patched for the --pid-recursive fix.

But things have started to download overnight.
hello
I would bet that you have not applied the patch that squarepenguin
pointed out the other day.
using the patched version of gip-3.14 i retrieve the info with no problem.
look in last month's archives for the thread about pid-recursive not
working
using the patched gip-3.14 the episodes are downloading as I write this.
i will stop them as soon as I send this. not into tennis or any sports
really.

As Dinky keeps reminding us, get_iplayer cannot download programmes
which are not available in the iPlayer. When I looked after seeing your
2319 post (which your email client seems to have timed at 5.19pm), the
iPlayer said the programmes would be available soon. I suspect the delay
was caused by the huge volume of sports programmes to be processed
yesterday.

Yes, I know and knew that, which is why I linked to the iPlayer site.
What I was complaining about was the inordinately long time it took to
make the programmes available on iPlayer.  In a rural location with
~1Mb/s download speeds, it's exceedingly frustrating to have to wait
more than six hours after a programme ends before you can even begin to
download it.  I'm not just a day behind now, I'm a day and a half.

Now we have the annoying situation where all three parts from Day 3 are
available while Day 2 Part 1 still is not, and no real reason given ...

It's ridiculous. Day 3 parts 1 and 3 were made available overnight but
part 2 took a long time not until the morning. And as you say Day 2 part
1 is still not available.  On the Beeb's programme issues page
(https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/help/programme-availability/programme-issues/wimbledon_day2):

"We're aware that *Wimbledon Day 2, Part 1*, broadcast on BBC Two on
Tuesday 3 July, is not yet available on BBC iPlayer.

We're looking into this and we'll update this FAQ with any further
information. "

I've never known it so bad.

I'm just adding to the guessing game here, but as far as I know, from
this year onwards the BBC are no longer in control of the cameras at
Wimbledon. Therefore it's possible that the BBC have broadcast
something which the LTA or other bodies involved with the tournament
have asked them to edit out before making the program available to stream.

You've obviously not been paying attention to people whining about
things not being instantly available before on this very mailing list.

Uh? Hot weather getting to you? ;-) "It" referred to Wimbledon
programmes as that was the subject under discussion.

It's reasonable to have assumed that "it" referred to content taking a
while to show up on iplayer in general, not just restricted to tennis.

Not in my response. I was very clear I was responding to a topic
entitled "No Wimbledon Today?"

New balls anyone? ;-)
